Ray k. Metzker was born on September 10, 1931 in Milwaukee, USA. He started to take photograph at the age fourteen. He studied art at Beloit College to earn BA. He continued his studying at the Institute of Design with thesis of consisting of Chicago’s downtown. He studied under Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind. He taught at the Philadelpia College of Art (1962-1980), University of Mexico (1970-1972) and Columbia College Chicago (1980-1983). in 1984, he devoted taking photograph and left teaching. He has one person exhibition in the museum and galleries. He has many awards including Guggenheim fellowship in 1966 which boost his confident as a photographer.

His pictures are very dark with very slightly light, it feels like the beginning of the stage play where things that just about alive. If you are in New York area Laurance Miller Gallery will have Metzker’s exhibition from september 12 – November 17, 2012 and if you are in the Los Angeles area Getty museum will exhibit from September 25 to February 24, 2013.
