Abram Games was born in London, United Kingdom on July 29, 1914. He went to London’s St.Martin School of Art for two terms. At the age 21, he did freelance by designing poster for shell, London Transport and GPO. He won a poster competition for London City Council. He designed more than 100 posters for military use. He also designed numerous emblems and stamps for Britain and Israel.
The first time I saw his poster, my mind reminds me to A.M Cassandre. A big image always dominated the poster. His poster looks very powerful and very appropriate for military purpose it. The poster fly to the USA by BOAC looks very military even though it’s advertising for Airplane Company. The Jersey poster is look very simple but very engaging.
I always associate his work with war poster but in fact he does more than that from advertising, book cover to logo. His work always look very emotional for me and it would be nice to see him designing poster for the Olympic in London. I think It would be very distinctive and became icons for the London Olympic. If you like to see more of his work you could get his book “Abram Games his life and work.”
