“The great stroke of luck in my life is to have been blessed first with an artistic feeling for shapes, and second with an easy grasp of technical processes and of mathematics.”

Adrian Frutiger was born in Unterseen, Canton of Bern on May 24, 1928. At the age of 16 when he was apprenticed at the printer Otto Schaerfilli for four years. From 1949 to 1951, he studied at Kunstgewebeschule in Zurich under Walter Kach and Alfred Willimann. He started his journey as a typeface designers at Deberny Et Peignot. Up till now he has been designing sixty six typefaces from classical to modern typefaces. Univers probably the most well-know type face that he designed. Most of the people connected Frutiger to typeface design but he has done many books and logos as well.

He dreamed to be a sculpture while he was child. His passion still can be seen through his design for logo. The shape and form looks very monumental and easy to be remembered. Now, he is in lives in his hometown Bern, Switzerland. If you like interest of his life and work Adrian Frutiger Typefaces: The Complete Works is a book to have.
