Werner Bischof was Born on April 26th 1916 in Zurich, Switzerland. Like Rene Burri, he studied under Hans Finsler at the School for Arts and crafts. After he graduated in 1936, he opened a photography and advertising studio. in 1939, he worked mostly for magazine du based in Zurich. He became a renown photographer after the publication of his 1945 reportage on the caused of the Second World war. in that year, he traveled around West and East Europe extensively. In 1949, he became first photographer to join Magnum which at that time just 5 members: : Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger, David Seymour, and Ernst Haas

In 1951, Bischof went to Asia; India, Japan, Korea, Hong kong and Indochina (Vietnam). His pictures became major picture in the magazine throughout the world. In 1954, he traveled to Mexico, Panama and Peru. In isolate area in Peru, he made a film. On the 16th of May, the tragic couldn’t be avoided, Bischof died in the road accident, his car fell off the cliff on a mountain road in Andes. He passed away at relatively young age at 38 but his great works had been piled. 1986, Marco Bischof became interest of his father, doing researched and read his diaries and letters. He gathered 70 previously unpublished photographer of his fathers and in 2004, Werner Bischof: Question to My Father were published.
