“I don’t usually give out advice or recipes, but you must let the person looking at the photograph go some of the way to finishing it. You should offer them a seed that will grow and open up their minds.”
Robert Doisneau was born on the April 14th 1912 in Paris, France. He studied at the Ecole Estienne, a craft school with diplomas in engraving and lithography. At this school he developed his sense of art and composition. He started his career as a draughtsman (lettering artist) at the graphic design studio. In the studio, he changed his role to be an camera assistant and became a staff photographer. In 1931, he worked as an assistant of Andre Vigneau and a year later he sold the first of photo story to the Excelsior Magazine but not until 1939, he took his first professional street photographs. At that year, he worked at Rapho photo Agency and traveled around France to take pictures.
“The marvels of daily life are exciting; no movie director can arrange the unexpected that you find in the street.”
I always find fascinating to look at the Doisneau’ pictures. Everyone looks like acting on the stage or the movie. All the images has a sense of playful, romantic, and dramatic pictures. Everyone just seem want to show their skill of acting to be taken by Doisneau. A genius indeed. I was surprise when I open google this morning. Robert Doisneau pictures in the google doodle. I felt that google act much faster that I did and in the same time I was wonder when the graphic designer, typographer, or type design would be in google doodle. I really want to share to people what graphic design or typographer is all about. When I wrote typography and google images it, I just want to cry to see the result. Most of them are just images with type on it. Let’s hope google would honor one of the greatest graphic designer or typographer. Happy 100th anniversary Robert Doisneau.
